...

Mary has enjoyed the practice of yoga for over 20 years and has been a certified instructor since 2005. She has been studying Anusara yoga with John Friend, Noah Maze, Desiree Rumbaugh, and Scotta Brady. Her classes can be described as meditation in motion. Mary's love of yoga and its benefits come through in her approach - encouraging all to try it and most importantly to "Breathe!" Her classes aim to guide students through postures (teaching flexibility and strength) while learning to relax and remain mindful of the breath. Students are encouraged to honor the body's limitations at any given moment and to adjust their practice and mind accordingly. Mary is the co-owner of Southern Star Yoga Center and the co-director of Southern Star's 200 Hour Teacher Training.

"The breath helps bring clarity and focus to the mind. When we become more mindful of our practice, we bring this awareness to our lives and our loved ones"

Linda Alexander

...

Linda moved to Mississippi from California in 2007, seeking a more relaxed and enjoyable way of life. She practiced yoga for a few years while attending university in California, but several moves and life changes pulled her away from her practice. After being diagnosed with an autoimmune condition in 2009, she knew she had to find a way to get back her strength, energy and quality of life. With the help of her friend Stevi at Southern Star Yoga Center, she was able to start out slowly, bringing flexibility into her joints and becoming stronger. Eventually her yoga practice enabled her to bring her condition under control, increase her strength and manage her pain.

Linda completed Southern Star’s 200 hour teacher training (RYT 200) in May 2014. She loves teaching yoga and does so with a spirit of compassion, driven by the desire to pass along to her students the life-enhancing benefits of yoga.

About a year later, she also completed a certification through the American Counsel on Exercise for personal training. This summer, Haley completed her 200 hour RYT to deepen her own practice and enrich her classes. Beth Blaha

...

Beth took her first yoga class in 1999 and it was here the seed was planted. Unfortunately, this class was short lived and ended and yoga fell off her radar until 2005, where she joined a studio that offered Pilates, Body Sculpt, and Yoga. She actively participated in all three. The seed was being watered. In late 2010, after changing careers, she found Southern Star. It was here she found a home and her absolute love of yoga. Here she found the true meaning of yoga and all its amazing benefits in combining mind, body, and spirit. The seed was growing roots. In 2013 she decided she wanted more and began her journey, wanting to learn more and share this love of yoga. Beth achieved her 200 hour Teacher Training Certification at Southern Star in 2014. The seed continues to grow and the journey continues…

Josh has been a student at Southern Star Yoga since 2012 when, after repeated injuries from his regular exercise routine, he decided to seek a more balanced approach to physical health. Yoga provided just that: a balance between strength and effortlessness that transformed his approach not only to exercise, but more significantly to life in general. Josh immediately began to see benefits of the practice both on and off the mat and was hooked. He has since maintained a regular practice and has completed his 200 hour yoga teacher training through Southern Star in May 2015. Dawn did yoga off and on all through college but did not have a consistent practice till a few years later. She rediscovered the benefits of yoga, because it helped her with rock climbing. Finally after consistently practicing for 2 years, she decided to take the plunge and get her RYT in the spring of 2014 in Charlotte North Carolina. "I love teaching students to appreciate every aspect of their practice, and it is a passion watching each student's practice grow and transform.

Annie Haymans

...

Annie was introduced to yoga at an early age in the most improbable of places….the Mississippi Delta, where most people thought she had just mispronounced the word “yogurt”. Annie’s interest in yoga was inspired by her mother who has been teaching yoga since the 90’s. It was during college that Annie consistently added yoga and pilates to her fitness repertoire. Her yoga practice continued to deepen throughout all three of her pregnancies. After the birth of her third child she began to realize there is more to yoga than the physical practice and began to translate yoga philosophy into a daily lifestyle. For Annie, yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual practice that requires dedication and consistent practice for a lifetime.

Annie recently earned a 200 hour yoga teacher certification from Southern Star. She hopes to bring yoga to the little ones by encouraging children and teens to develop a yoga practice early in life. Annie enjoys teaching an upbeat vinyasa style yoga class with lots of popular funky music to keep the tempo and spirits high. You can expect to stretch, sweat, and strengthen all while having fun. Seeing the need and benefits of yoga in her life, she now finds joy in sharing her love of yoga through teaching others.
